Independence of India carries with it a lot of history soaked with blood. English East India company formed in the 16th century. East India Company which came to India for trading purpose soon exploited the weak princely system prevent in various states of India and started to overtake each of them. Soon struggles began at low level to get rid of the British power and it culminated into a full scale war in 1857 which is now known in the history as Indian Mutiny. The War of 1857 jointly fought by every ethic group in India but British forces overcame this hurdle and defeated Indians in most of the battles.

The longing for Independence strong, but it took a brilliant leader and his unusual approach to resistance to finally restore South Asians. The direct approach, military rebellion against Britain, had proved a very bloody and fierce failures, although native Indians did at times make small gains, it seemed that the British kept on wringing more wealth from their colony at every turn. In 1885, though 73, native men from all over India formed the Indian Congress, this organization became the heart of the movement for Indian Independence and quickly attracted many followers. In fact, by the third year of its existence, the Indian Congress comprise 300 members. The Congress had very few Muslims in its ranks, which consisted mostly of Hindus; Muslims interested in achieving Independence from European rule eventually formed the Muslim League.
